Best time to visit Leh Ladakh

Ladhak is open to tourist all the year however, the best time to visit Leh Ladakh is between May and October. During this time the weather is very pleasant and off course roads are clear from snows with no more jam and land slides. The temperature during the season time is around 16 degrees during the daytime with sunny days and cold nights.

During the freezing winters in Leh Ladhak the temperature drops below the freezing point hence it is a perfect destination to enjoy snow and adventure sports as well. Chadar Trek is the most popular trek for the adventure looking people.

How to reach Leh Ladakh

By Air: The only airport is Leh for getting to Ladakh. A lot many airlines operate flights to Leh from the cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Jammu and Srinagar.

By Road: Himachal Pradesh Tourism (HRTC) and Jammu and Kashmir Tourism (J&K SRTC) offers many bus services. Cabs and tourist taxis are also available.

By Train: Ladakh does not yet have railway connectivity due to high altitude and difficult terrain. The closest railway station is Jammu, which is over 700 km away from Leh.

Road trip to Leh is the very famous among the bike lovers and even to car or air are the two best ways to reach Leh. Driving to Leh from Manali is catching up the most among the youth off late as the distance from Delhi to Leh is over 1000km, and the distance from Manali to Leh is almost 500 km. The route from Manali to Leh is incredibly scenic but needs a lot of experience with mountain drives. If someone is eager for a road trip to Ladakh, we suggest taking a taxi with a trained driver.

Situated at an altitude of 14200 feet, Pangong Lake in Ladhak is one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. It stretches from India to China. The shiny water of the lake changes colour regularly during the day because of the reflection of the sunshine over the lake. The colours that predominates are blue and green.
Looking this blue lake is not only breathtaking but an unforgettable moment of life as well. The site looks like a painting canvas of the almighty wherein he has put contrasting colours, with blue sky and the reflection of this blue colours looks in the lake and brown ,white mountains in the back drop. Gurudwara Pathar Sahib

Gurudwara Pathar Sahib was made as a symbol of Guru Nanak Dev Ji first visit to Ladakh.
According to a legend, a demon used to kill people of this area and when Guru Nanak Dev ji was meditating the demon threw a stone boulder at him. By the grace of Guru Nanak Dev Ji the boulder turned soft as soon as it touched Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s body. The impression of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s body and the footprint of the demon on the boulder is visible on the bolder even today. The pious shrine Gurudwara Pathar Sahib is situated at an altitude of 12000 ft. and is just a short drive away from Leh on the Leh-Kargil road very near to the Magnetic Hill. This shrine is maintained by the Indian Army, tea and Prasad is offered to all visitors by them.

Shanti Stupa

Built is 1991 and located upon a hilltop, the Shanti Stupa is a wonderful example of Buddhist architecture with its beautiful white-domed structure.
It presents a amazing bird eye view of the Leh city. The sunset from this place is worth watching. The Shanti Stupa was built by Japanese Buddhist Bhikshu. This white pagoda rest on a hilltop in Chanspa as a mark for the world’s peace and prosperity. The life stories of Lord Buddha is presented in the panels around the Stupa.

Hemis Monastery

Located on a hill top alongside the banks of Indus River the Hemis Monastery is an 11th century Tibetan Monastery. Hemis Monastery is the largest and most popular Buddhist monasteries in Ladakh. The museum of Hemis Monastery is well known for its collection of Buddhist relics, ancient paintings, weapons, etc. in its museum. The most fascinating part of the monastery is the tall statue of Buddha facing the valley. The interiors of the monastery is beautifully decorated with traditional Buddhist paintings known as Thangkas.

Diskit Monastery

Diskit Monastery is a beautiful Buddhist monastery in the Nubra Valley located on a hill facing Shyok river and showcasing beautiful view of the surrounding hills, snow covered mountains and the gushing river in the distance. It is 14th-century monastery and also known as oldest and biggest Buddhist Monastery in the Nubra Valley region. Diskit Monastery is made in Tibetan style and belongs to belongs to the Gelugpa order of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery is collection of beautiful murals and frescos. A 32 meter Maitreya Buddha statue facing the whole region is very fascinating to watch.

Thiksey Monastery
Thiksey Monastery is also among the largest monastery in Ladhak located 19 kilometers from Leh at an altitude of 11,840 ft. and it is also known as Mini Patola. It is a beautiful red, ochre and white colored on the top of a hill. The twelve storey monastery houses Buddhist art such as paintings, swords, thangkas, statues, etc. A superb piece of architecture, the monastery showcases a giant pillar imprinted with the Buddha’s teachings and several small shrines, stupas, prayer halls and residential areas of the monks. The forty nine feet tall statue of Maitreya Buddha is the highlight of the Thiksey Monastery.

Magnetic Hill Ladakh
Magnetic Hill is a famous tourist attraction situated 30km from Leh on the Leh-Kargil National Highway. It is known for its noticeable magnetic properties that can pull cars uphill. People also visit here for its unspoiled natural beauty. Situated at a height of 13,000 feet, the magnetic hill is a treat to the eyes. The Indus and Zanskar rivers surge in closeness and congregate at Nimmu Valley. It is a tranquil and calm sight.

Alchi Monastery

Alchi is a village popular for its ancient Buddhist shrines. It is situated around 70km from Leh. The village is distinguish by its apricot trees on both sides of the road and fertile lands. It is located on the banks of river Indus. Alchi Monastaery, the oldest monasteries in Ladhak is situated in Alchi village. Intricate statues of Buddha and ancient wall paintings are the major attractions at Alchi Monastery. Alchi Monastery is one of the exceptional Ladakh monasteries that is situated on the ground and not on the top of a hill.
