Sarnath :
Sarnath is where Buddha preached his first sermon, is just 10 km from Varanasi. In later times, Emperor Ashoka erected magnificent stupas and buildings at this destination making it an important place of pilgrimage. Visit Dhamukh Supta, Ashoka pillar, Chowkhandi Supta, Mulagandha Kuti Vihar and other magnificent places.
Bodhgaya :
Buddha attained enlightenment near the holy city of Gaya. The tree that had sheltered him came to be known as the Bhodi Tree and the place Bodhgaya. Kushinagar :
Where Buddha breathed his last and achieved Mahaparinirvana. There are ruins of many stupas as well as the chaityas and viharas that were built in later times. Some must-see places here are Nirvana Temple, Rambhar Supta and Matha Kaur Shrine.
Kapilavastu (Pipahawa) :
It was at Kapilavastu amidst opulent surroundings that the young Prince Siddhartha (later known as Buddha) grew up. It was here that he, on seeing sorrow and pain, sickness and death, decided to renounce all worldly riches and pleasures to seek truth and the path to salvation. The ruins of the old city from where Buddhism started has several stupas. From the main stupa have been recovered stone caskets containing relics believed to be that of the Buddha.
Sanchi :
Known as the masterpiece of art, Sanchi is known for stupas, monasteries temples and pillars dating from 3rd century B.C to the 12th century AD Carved with stories of Buddha’s past and present. The gateways are the finest specimen of early classical art which formed the seedbed for the entire vocabulary of later Indian art.
Aurangabad :
